Website Major Update
Website Major Update
Project details
What we need
- Significant update to Organization’s existing CMS website, such as adding a new page, customizing a theme, adjusting layout, etc.
- Smaller update to Organization's non-CMS website
Additional details
Lake Stewards of Maine is an organization focused upon volunteer training, public outreach, and data archiving. Our website, LakestewardsofMaine.org, is disjointed and has a dated design. We use WordPress for our CMS and require LAMP compatibility. As I envision it, the redesign would focus on changing to a reactive template, easier navigation (pathways), a clearer and distilled message, and highlighting / improved interaction with the donation button / pages. We use Blackbaud and JustGiving.
What we have in place
- We currently have a design document with a homepage concept, which should make it easy for you to get started. We also have a conceptual outline for site architecture, and the ability to provide any other information you need.
How this will help
This project will save us $4,586 , allowing us to expand our volunteer outreach, which directly translates to better protection of Maine's lakes. The early detection of infestations or toxic blooms by informed volunteers saves communities thousands.
We have been largely an in-person organization. Our volunteers are largely older demographics. With CoViD, we need to provide easier to navigate and more aesthetically pleasing access to our resources. As a silver lining we have seen volunteer engagement expand to locales multiple car hours away. They could not previously make events we hosted. This is why virtual engagement is now more than a temporary necessity, it is the means of us reaching underserved communities.
Project plan
Our mission
Lake Stewards of Maine (LSM), formerly Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program, promotes lake stewardship and helps protect Maine lakes through widespread citizen participation in the gathering and dissemination of credible scientific information pertaining to lake health. LSM trains, certifies and provides technical support to hundreds of volunteers who monitor a wide range of indicators of water quality, assess watershed health and function, and screen lakes for invasive aquatic plants and animals.
What we do
LSM views our ability to guide and support the passion and commitment of everyday citizens, all of whom share a very personal feeling of connection to Maine lakes, as the only viable means of providing the effective stewardship needed to safeguard these treasured bodies of water. Our vision is essentially to create a broad-based culture of lake stewardship, fueled by the passion of individual citizen scientists, who choose a way of life that includes actively participating in the important work of preserving every lake in Maine.
